Daughter of Smoke and Bones

Honestly, it took many pages for me to have that eagerness to finish the book. It’s not that the story isn’t interesting and good, it isn’t just what I expected at the beginning. I had to put it down several times, suspended the reading and got back to it after a day or two. But when I started to unravel the soul of the story, it became a winner for me.
The Daughter of Smoke and Bones is mind-boggling, wicked and mysterious. Laini Taylor has created unique characters she describes perfectly like they exist in the real world—illustrating physical images that loiter in your imagination. How can you forget a girl with bright blue hair? That is Karou, a young art student in Prague who speaks many languages—which not all of them human—and who is swathed in mysteries apart from the unique color of her hair.
This young and vibrant protagonist exists in this world with abundant questions about so many things—especially about herself. However, her journey to different places through different doors for mystifying errands will lead her to someone she will think of as a threat. But when Akiva’s fire-colored eyes looked at her, everything in her life begins to change and becomes translucent. He will help her unveil the secrets and discover the truth about who she is—and perhaps, find love.
She is no ordinary human and she still has so many “whys”. But more than that, she is bogged down in an atrocious unearthly war. How will she get herself out of these uncanny occurrences? The Daughter of Smoke and Bones assures to give you the best answer as it promises to give you more surprises.

A Torch Against the Night

“Your emotions make you human, Elias said to me weeks ago in the Serran Range. Even the unpleasant ones have a purpose. If you ignore them, they just get louder and angrier.” Although this book is a best-seller, I cannot say that this is a can’t-put-it-down read because it took me several weeks to finish flipping on its pages. To be honest, it was a tedious start. But as the story built up, it brought me to different places and introduced me to other interesting characters. I found it a good read. At times, it was a breathtaking feat following Elias and Laia on their journey as they run for their lives. I was thrilled while racing with them away from the Martial soldiers who hunt them and consider them fugitives of the Empire. The long and menacing expedition required me some deep breaths, but I was enamored by Laia’s bravery to defy and fight the enemies in order to save her brother—who is believed to be the key to the Scholars’ survival—from the treacherous prison. And Elias, ...

Graceling

For an award-winning debut book, this is breathtaking! Written with flair and elegance,  Graceling  is one of the spellbinding reads that quench my hunger for fantasy books. The thrilling journey, the terrifying adventure, the outstanding backdrops, the stunning encounters, the heart-pounding romance, and the endearing cast of characters have mesmerized me the whole time. It’s interesting to find beauty and brutality together. In this book, you will find it in Katsa and Prince Po, both graced with extreme skills and they are beautiful. When their paths crossed, both their lives change forever in a journey that could end both their lives. While Katsa is a killing machine, Prince Po is a mind reader. And their graces will be a weapon in fighting an impious king graced with a powerful skill that curses the land and its people—and threatens to control all the kingdoms. Together with the king’s daughter, Princess Bitterblue, who escaped from his father’s execution, th...

The Name of the Wind

This is a good tale—a chronicle of my travels and adventures with Kvothe, the legendary hero who has stolen princesses, talked to Gods, loved women, and written songs that make the minstrels weep. The saga of Kvothe awakened my passion that had become quiescent for more than a decade—my zest to reading. When I met him, he enchanted me with his unique wit, cunning thoughts, and most of all, his sympathy and powerful binding techniques. Eventually, he detained me in Patrick Rothfuss’ magical pages. As I begin my journey with this charming and spirited character, I uncovered that every leaf of The Name of the Wind eagerly breaks the monotony of the books of the same genre. It is all-encompassing—a distinctively outlined portrayal of life’s parable and family relationship, of travel adventures and personal wanderlust, of friendship and fleeting acquaintances, of en route impediments and life-altering circumstances, of grief face due to loss and power of emancipation, of a que...
