The Girl of Fire and Thorns

I really can’t fathom why I found to love reading this book. My excitement for fantasy books could be the driving force, but for sure I loved this work by Rae Carson.

The Girl of Fire and Thorns is such an intriguing title, isn’t it? It is enchanting as a citadel, promising as its young protagonist—Elisa, the young princess chosen in this century for greatness despite her naivete and ordinary existence in the kingdom. It is a destiny ushered with danger from those who seek her which could mean her death. She has to become the secret wife to a handsome and worldly king whose country and people she is fated to save.
Princess Elisa will wage her life, and not later her heart, and she knows that she could not fail. But what chances does she have against enraged savage enemies with powerful dark magic? Will she be able to save the man who looks at her like no other man can and be everything to those who need her most? Most of the chosen ones die young fulfilling their destiny—and the prophecy. Will she be one of them?
Personally, I was stunned at how the story surges through the leaves of the book. I was excited about the breathtaking journey, of the spine-chilling encounters and daunted by the overwhelming power of magic. The Girl of Fire and Thorns is a fantasy novel presented exceptionally through its beautiful ensemble of adorable characters, wonderful backdrop and engrossing plot that could keep its readers wanting for more. I would say it is a simple but excellent success!

A Torch Against the Night

“Your emotions make you human, Elias said to me weeks ago in the Serran Range. Even the unpleasant ones have a purpose. If you ignore them, they just get louder and angrier.” Although this book is a best-seller, I cannot say that this is a can’t-put-it-down read because it took me several weeks to finish flipping on its pages. To be honest, it was a tedious start. But as the story built up, it brought me to different places and introduced me to other interesting characters. I found it a good read. At times, it was a breathtaking feat following Elias and Laia on their journey as they run for their lives. I was thrilled while racing with them away from the Martial soldiers who hunt them and consider them fugitives of the Empire. The long and menacing expedition required me some deep breaths, but I was enamored by Laia’s bravery to defy and fight the enemies in order to save her brother—who is believed to be the key to the Scholars’ survival—from the treacherous prison. And Elias, ...

Graceling

For an award-winning debut book, this is breathtaking! Written with flair and elegance,  Graceling  is one of the spellbinding reads that quench my hunger for fantasy books. The thrilling journey, the terrifying adventure, the outstanding backdrops, the stunning encounters, the heart-pounding romance, and the endearing cast of characters have mesmerized me the whole time. It’s interesting to find beauty and brutality together. In this book, you will find it in Katsa and Prince Po, both graced with extreme skills and they are beautiful. When their paths crossed, both their lives change forever in a journey that could end both their lives. While Katsa is a killing machine, Prince Po is a mind reader. And their graces will be a weapon in fighting an impious king graced with a powerful skill that curses the land and its people—and threatens to control all the kingdoms. Together with the king’s daughter, Princess Bitterblue, who escaped from his father’s execution, th...

The Name of the Wind

This is a good tale—a chronicle of my travels and adventures with Kvothe, the legendary hero who has stolen princesses, talked to Gods, loved women, and written songs that make the minstrels weep. The saga of Kvothe awakened my passion that had become quiescent for more than a decade—my zest to reading. When I met him, he enchanted me with his unique wit, cunning thoughts, and most of all, his sympathy and powerful binding techniques. Eventually, he detained me in Patrick Rothfuss’ magical pages. As I begin my journey with this charming and spirited character, I uncovered that every leaf of The Name of the Wind eagerly breaks the monotony of the books of the same genre. It is all-encompassing—a distinctively outlined portrayal of life’s parable and family relationship, of travel adventures and personal wanderlust, of friendship and fleeting acquaintances, of en route impediments and life-altering circumstances, of grief face due to loss and power of emancipation, of a que...
